I suspect that this is your problem if by "My virus scan..." refers to to a third party Anti-virus that you intentionally installed...

FWIW, newstoday2 is a normal process, not malware. I would recommend uninstalling whatever antivirus app you have installed.

The newstoday2 process is part of macOS.

Remove the add-on anti-malware, remove the add-on firewall apps, and related, and see if the issues persist.
