iCloud contacts now have tags like: X-ABShowAs:COMPANY

A number of my iCloud contacts now have items like X-ABShowAs:COMPANY embedded after the item... the example shown is embedded after a telephone number which originally showed up as "Company" and now shows up as "phone" with this VCARD tag at the back end of the number making it so that I can't dial it until I edit it and remove the spurious text...

Any ideas on what's going on?

Hello simpsong00,

Thanks for letting us know. Next, can you tell us if your contacts look the same when you sign into iCloud via the web or on your other devices, such as an iPhone or iPad?

Sign in and use iCloud.com - Apple Support

1) Go to iCloud.com, then sign in with your Apple ID.

If you’re already signed in to your device with your Apple ID and your device has Touch ID or Face ID, you can use it to sign in to iCloud.com.

2) If you set up two-factor authentication or two-step verification, follow the onscreen instructions to verify your identity by entering a code sent to a trusted device.

If you lost your trusted device, you can still use Find Devices by clicking the Find Devices button after you enter your Apple ID. See How to sign in to Find Devices on iCloud.com.

See the Apple Support articles Two-factor authentication for Apple ID and Two-step verification for Apple ID.

If the contacts only appear to be corrupted on your Mac, we want you to create a new user account (administrator) to see if the original issue persists. This will let us know if it is system-wide or something within your user account: Change Users & Groups settings on Mac

Let us know what you find.

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities.

Cheers!

Hey there simpsong00,

While you may need to edit your contacts, we'd like to rule out some possible causes for this occurring, along with confirming more details to better understand what's happening:

  1. When did this occur?
  2. Is every iCloud contact affected, or only specific ones?
  3. Have you recently added any new internet accounts to your iPhone, or changed any settings regarding iCloud contacts?
  4. Sometimes unexpected behavior can be resolved with a restart. Check out the section ‘Restart your Mac' here: Shut down or restart your Mac
  5. We see you have macOS 13.2 installed on your Mac mini, but the latest version is macOS 13.2.1. You can verify this by clicking on the Apple logo at the top left corner of the screen, then on ‘About This Mac’. In case you needed it, this link shows how to first back up, then Update macOS on Mac.

Cheers!

Thanks for responding. Here's my answers... sorry they are incomplete.

1) I'm not sure, since it's not every contact, I only noticed it recently. I restored a contacts backup from iCloud and it still had the issue, so it occurred prior to the purchase of the new Mac-mini. It must have happened between December and January since the contacts were good when I did my Christmas card list in late November.

2) Only some, not all...

3) No, not recently.

4) I've restarted my Mac, although I have many devices using these contacts, so I haven't restarted my phones/iPads, other Macs etc...

5) I have now updated to macOS 13.2.1, but based on my restore from an iCloud backup (I did a restore from just prior to the install of my new Mac mini), the corruption occurred prior to the new machine...

Thanks, let me know if you want any further info.
