How do I add links in posts and comments in Safari on iPhone?

How do I add links in posts and comments in Safari on iPhone at discussions.apple.com?

I've tried markdown, but of course, that doesn't work.

I've pasted real links copied from web pages, links that works perfectly well when I paste them in a standard iPhone mail. But of course, that doesn't work.

I've tried requesting the desktop website. But of course, that doesn't work. It's still the mobile website.

I've tried turning the phone into landscape position. But of course, that doesn't work. Still no tool menu for links etc.

I've always disliked the way discussions.apple.com works, but I'm seriously beginning to hate it.

If I can't add links, there's no point in trying to help anyone in the community. And it's the community's loss, not mine.

Thanks for the confirmation.

I've just posted an iPhone feedback asking for the tools menu in Mobile Website at discussions.apple.com. Is there a feedback somewhere for discussions.apple.com itself?

I've also tested the edit box in Chrome and Firefox and it's exactly the same problem as in Safari.

But in Opera, the only well-known mobile browser that can bypass the mobile detection and load the real Desktop Website, the tools menu shows up - and in portrait mode to boot.

As a matter of fact, it used to work on my current iPhone to get the tools menu in Desktop Website + Landscape position. But it was very difficult to use to say the least, because the keyboard takes up 70% of the screen height in landscape position. How silly is that, why can't Apple support shrinking the keyboard height like Android can?

Just to confirm that there is no way whatsoever to get the tools menu in Safari, I've done all of these - at the same time not one by one:

• Deleted the Website Data for apple.com.

• Unblocked Pop-ups.

• Disabled all Extensions.

• Allowed Website Tinting.

• Allowed Cross-Site Tracking.

• Unhidden IP Address.

• Turned off Fraudulent Website Warning.

• Set zoom universally at 100%.

After that:

• Killed Safari and hard-reset the iPhone.

After reboot:

• Tried both Desktop and Mobile Website in landscape position.

Still no tools menu.

• So either some update crashed the tools menu, or some design change did.

The tools menu IS there, at least for most of us. If you want Apple to help you fix your phone, you'll need to contact them directly. You can use the "Support" link at the bottom left of every page of this forum

Then it's time to contact Apple.

Wow! This is a real “A-haaa” moment!

This is for “the hosts” to think about, keep reading!

I feel like an idiot (and you must already think I am 😂)

I can’t thank you enough for your outstanding patience @IdrisSeabright !

So this is the thing: I’ve completely confused what you mean when you say “thread”, “post”, and “comment”, because:

⁣1) When I received emails saying “We removed your post ‘How do I add links in posts and comments in Safari on iPhone?’”, I understood my removed “post” to be the entire thread, because “How do I add …” is the title of the thread, and the title did not occurr in any of the removed posts!

2) What the emails should have said is: “We removed your post in ‘How do I add …’”. That removes the confusion! Even better would be: “We removed your post in the thread ‘How do I add …’”. And even better again would be to quote the first few words of the post: “We removed your postWow! This is …’ in the thread ‘How do I add …’”.

⁣3) So because of the missing “in”, I came to believe that what y’all mean when you say “post” is what I (correctly) call a “thread”.

⁣4) But that left me with the question: what do you/they call a “post”? And sadly, I (incorrectly) jumped to the conclusion that it must be “comment”, because you say that a lot.

5) So from there I got stuck in my thinking until you spelled it out for me in your latest post (Which ironically has just been removed).

⁣6) And to conclude: what you/they call a “comment” is technically the same thing as a “post” (except for the original post), isn’t it? It’s just semantics for if the post is in reply to the original post, or if the post is in reply to a reply, in which case you call it a “comment”, right? It has to be because a lot of the “We removed your post …” emails referred to a reply to a reply i.e. a “comment", and therefore "post" and "comment" is the same thing!
