Background App Refresh …

This seems to be a problem. I recently upgraded to iPhone 14, when attempting to turn background app refresh off on several apps, I noticed the Background Refresh is in ON position, Greyed Out and on WIFI…

Most techs are telling you to go to a low battery position to turn background app refresh off…I just want to be able to toggle a few apps into the OFF Background App Refresh BUT there doesn’t seem to be any way to change it!

  1. How do I changed my Background APP Refresh from Wifi to Wifi and Cellular (when greyed out in On Position in Wifi)
  2. Once I’m able to toggle it off or on Wifi or Cellular, will I be able to turn off Background App Refresh on other apps.

Get back to me with an answer on this as soon as someone out there knows.

Hello Vilas_S, Thank you for your reply. I located the issue yesterday.

In Settings, I went to Screentime, clicked Content and Privacy and scrolled down to find

Background App Activities and noticed it was not on “Allow”

Once I selected Allow, I had access to change all apps that were currently set as “ON” Background App Refresh.

Hopefully this will help others as well!

Hello PDudz88,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. It looks like you’re unable to adjust your Background App Refresh settings. If so, we’d like to share some information on why this issue is most likely occurring. If you’re using Low Power Mode, this will limit access to certain features as mentioned here: Use Low Power Mode to save battery life on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

Low Power Mode reduces or affects these features:
-Low Power Mode reduces or affects these features: Background app refresh

This means you will have to disable and turn off Low Power Mode. To do this, you can go to Settings > Battery > Low Power Mode to turn it off. If you continue to see these options greyed out, even with Low Power Mode disabled, please reach out to Apple Support for help. You can use this link to reach them: Get Support
