icloud login error

attempting to log into icloud with a new password. A verification code was sent but when I enter it, I get an error message "Error connecting to Apple ID server" Have repeated this process several times

No, if you sign out of your Apple ID, the connection to iCloud Photos will also be disabled, hence the message.

But only the photos on your iPhone will be deleted, they will remain in iCloud Photos, and when you sign into iCloud gain on your iPhone, those photos will be synced again to your iPhone.


However, since iCloud Photos is only meant to sync your photos across your devices, you should copy and archive them from time to time.
