Old ipad using ios 9.3.5 will update apple id

Changed/updated my apple id and now my ipad still shows the old one and now I can't log into iTunes for app updates etc. Is there a technique to get the ipad to show/use the new id

I have reset my old iPad and erased, but it wont allow me to add a new Apple ID How do i do this? As i have given it to a friend but they can’t add an id
