I don't see the apple cash icon but I'm set up with apple pay

I set up my bank debit card for apple pay and its in the phones wallet but I don't have the option of the black apple cash card or do I have the icon at the bottom in messages for sending money, someone sent me money and when I click on it it says apple pay is not enabled so I follow the steps and everything is in fact enabled. I made sure to update my phone, turn on and allow everything possible is there anything else I need to do? also I'm located in the U.S.
