questions about hardshell case for MBA M2

So this question has been asked before, but I couldn't respond. Is a hardshell case okay with MBA M2? Previous responses from individuals indicate no and there is a logic to this.

But Apple sells hardcase shells for the MBA M2. A description of the Incase sold here on Apple.com "The Incase Hardshell Case for MacBook Air M2 Dots is a lightweight, form-fitting case that offers protection without sacrificing access to ports, lights and buttons. This durable MacBook cover features sophisticated styling, injection-molded construction, and rubberized feet to keep your laptop cool and firmly in place."

So are the cases sold by Apple actually okay? Or is Apple selling products that should not actually be used?

As I said, the choice is yours. I view finger prints, dings, scratches signs of use and experience.

I have never been a fan of placing stickers on my electronics. I place my computer in a computer backpack when not in use. I do not use a hard case for the reasons already stated.

If you come back asking for help with overheating, one of the first suggestions will be to remove the third party case.

Thank you, Bob the Fisherman. This doesn't answer my question per se, but it does answer whether or not I should trust Apple's own recommendations for accessories. I will not.

Why the case? I want something to protect my new MBA. I was thinking a hard case or a skin of some kind. I just want it to look shiny and new for awhile, and in my experience (which is a lot), dings, scratches, fingerprints all will happen.

I also am an avid fan of stickers, and a laptop case means I can sticker my laptop without ever actually putting a sticker on it. May seem slight, but I consider my laptop stickers a major source of personal expression.

Regardless, it was worth a shot asking. Thanks again.

Hi Bob,

It certainly does sound like you have own preferences when using Macs and how you like to enjoy them, just as I have my own. I'm right now looking at a 2015 MBP and typing this on a 2015 MBA both with sticker aesthetics that embody the time they've been with me. Maybe in a small way I view them akin to getting tattoos through different life stages.

I also enjoy having "signs of use and experience", but one thing I've noticed over the years, with my multiple Mac laptops including those above (and all in current use except for my 2009 white unibody which sadly just sits packed away - and no, no stickers on that gorgeous machine), is that I am constantly trying new things to see if they work for me and for my Macs, with the computer always coming first. Along these lines, I was thinking of trying something new and seeing how 'fresh' I can keep my beautiful, shiny new Starlight machine. So yes, I came to inquire about the case, particularly in light of confusion as to why Apple would sell something that would cause their own products to break down.

Thank you for your initial response. As I implied earlier, I will not be getting the case. (Also, if I did choose the case, I wouldn't come back here asking about overheating, because logically the first thing to do would be to remove it!)

Best to you!
