What macOS version is the Macbook Pro running? That may be important. If the os version is too old, so are your browsers.
Microsoft discontinued the Silverlight plugin.
What you have likely encountered is a change in video delivery that uses HTML5. A 2010 Macbook Pro's hardware cannot natively support that. See the HTML5 section in the Netflix Support article:

Hardware support for HTML5 in most Mac computers did not appear until 2012.
One workaround that used to help was to use FireFox instead of the Safari browser. FireFox had a built-in software solution forthe HTML issue.
If your Macbook Pro is not upgraded to 10.13 High Sierra, I strongly recommend upgrading. Most modern browsers require High Sierra; FireFox requires 10.12 Sierra. Get it here:
