Screen sharing with VNC password is on. Doesn't work from any type of device I have.
What else needs to be done? Searches came up with nothing except having to install RealVNC Server which I don't want to do.

It is difficult to understand your issue. If you don't install VNC, why would you expect VNC to work?
Please provide system, connection, error, and configuration details.

Apple Remote Desktop is something else that I'm not using and is not needed.
