This email address is not available. Please choose another one.

I had two apple accounts one with "xxx@gmail.com" and "yyy@gmail.com". I did not need two accounts and wanted to use my primary email (yyy@gmail.com) on the apple account I use (xxx@gmail.com).

When I tried to do so, I was greeted with the error message: "This email address is not available. Please choose another one."

Since I had no use of the secondary apple account, I deleted it (a few months ago now).

But now, even with the account that used the email deleted, I still can't use it and get the same error message. When I try to login with my primary email (the one who was linked to the deleted account), it says no appleid is linked to that email, so I guess it is deleted but then why can't I use it for my primary account and why is it not available?

No, once your Apple ID is deleted, you can't use the email address that you used with it to create a new Apple ID. In addition, you can't use that email address with another existing Apple ID except as a rescue [notification] email. Also, if your primary Apple ID email address is with a Custom Email Domain, it can never be reused to create an Apple ID after your Apple ID is deleted, even if the domain ownership changes."
