Good evening kthomas1059,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
It sounds like you are trying to remove the iPad you were using as a Home Hub in the Home app, and we'd like to help.
Can you provide a little more information about what you are experiencing?
- Did you replace the iPad with a different personal iPhone or iPad? Has it been updated to iOS 16.3.1?
- Have you set up the new device as a hub for your Home accessories?
- What Home accessories are you trying to add to the Home Hub?
Your responses to these questions will help us understand the issue better and work towards a resolution with you.
Initially, you went into the Settings app > [your name] > iCloud and signed in with the Apple ID you used to set up your HomeKit accessories in the Home app. You turned on Home. Then in Settings > Home you enabled "Use this iPad as a Home Hub" You would need to repeat these steps but turn this setting off.
Another thing you can try is to:
- Open the Home app
- Select the three dots in a circle in the upper right corner of the screen
- Select Home settings
- Scroll down to Home Hubs and Bridges
- Do you see the iPad hub showing?
The resource below will get you started with your new device in the Home app:
