iPhone13 Pro not sounding text alert

I recently updated to 16.3.1 on my iPhone 13 Pro. Previous to this update, I would receive text alerts with sound. Now, when my phone is is not unlocked, I do not receive a text alert. However, it does alert with sound and vibration on my Apple watch. If my phone is unlocked, the text alert tone works on the phone and I am alerted by vibration on my watch.

I have followed these suggestions:

1) checked to be sure side button was not on silent mode,

2) checked settings/notifications/messages and "allow notifications" is turned ON.

3) checked settings/sounds & haptics/text tone and "keys" is selected.

4) checked settings/focus--I only have two and neither one is turned on

5) shut down phone and restarted it (did this twice) No changed in text alert

I HAVE NOT followed the suggestion to reset the phone. I'm hoping someone can tell me if there is anything else to try besides resetting. Also, does anyone think Apple will correct this problem that was created by the recent update? Maybe I should just wait and see?

Thank you for your quick, detailed response to my question. I have checked "Scheduled Summary" and it is not enabled. I also checked under Face ID and Passcode and under "allow when unlocked", notifications was already turned on. I guess I'll have to contact Apple Support. They were helpful when the update before this one caused an issue on my Mac mini.

Thank you so much for trying to help me.

Have you enabled Scheduled Summary?

Settings > Notifications > [Select the App that you are having trouble receiving immediate notifications]

See the pic below for a few examples. Please select immediate delivery.

Go to Settings and tap Notifications. Select an app under Notification Style. Under Alerts, choose the alert style that you want. If you turn on Allow Notifications, choose when you want the notifications delivered — immediately or in the scheduled notification summary.

Use notifications on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

Change notification settings on iPhone

  1. Go to Settings > Notifications.
