16.3.1 can’t remove myself from text thread

I used to be able to remove myself from text threads. 16.3.1 has either moved that capability or removed it. Advice?

It is only possible to leave or remove people from a group conversation if everyone in the group uses iMessages.

iMessages are sent via data, through Apple.
Normal SMS/MMS are sent via the "old fashioned network", via your Carrier.
