Night Shift Mode and Color Temperature not working on Samsung Odyssey G9 after macOS Ventura update

Following an update to macOS Ventura, the nightshift mode on my SAMSUNG 49” Odyssey G9 monitor ceased to function. Although I am still able to toggle it on until the following day, it has no impact. Similarly, I can adjust the color temperature by moving it left and right, but the monitor does not respond. However, on my MacBook, the nightshift mode operates perfectly without any issues.

MacBook Pro 16″, macOS 13.2

Hi there inzheneher,

We know that you mentioned that this issue just started after the macOS update. It is possible that this may no longer be supported on your monitor. It does not look like your monitor is listed as being supported for Night Shift. You can look over the list of Mac computers (using their own built-in display) or the external displays that are supported here: Use Night Shift on your Mac - Apple Support.

System requirements for Night Shift
Night Shift requires macOS Sierra 10.12.4 or later and one of these Mac computers, using the built-in display or the displays listed:
• MacBook introduced in 2015 or later
• MacBook Air introduced in 2012 or later
• MacBook Pro introduced in 2012 or later
• Mac mini introduced in 2012 or later
• Mac Studio introduced in 2022
• iMac introduced in 2012 or later
• Mac Pro introduced in 2013 or later

• Apple Studio Display
• Apple Pro Display XDR
• Apple LED Cinema Display
• Apple Thunderbolt Display
• LG UltraFine 5K Display
• LG UltraFine 4K Display

That being said, you may want to reach out to Samsung directly to see if they will be offering any firmware updates or if they can offer any support for the display to support these Mac settings.

Best wishes!

Hi inzheneher,

Have you checked to see if this still occurs in a separate user account? This will help determine if there is an issue at the user level or globally on your Mac. You can learn how to create one here:

"Add a user

  1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > System Settings, then click Users & Groups  in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)
  2. Click the Add Account button below the list of users on the right (you may be asked to enter your password.)
  3. Click the New Account pop-up menu, then choose a type of user.
    • Administrator: An administrator can add and manage other users, install apps, and change settings. The new user you create when you first set up your Mac is an administrator. Your Mac can have multiple administrators. You can create new ones, and convert standard users to administrators. Don’t set up automatic login for an administrator. If you do, someone could simply restart your Mac and gain access with administrator privileges. To keep your Mac secure, don’t share administrator names and passwords.
    • Standard: Standard users are set up by an administrator. Standard users can install apps and change their own settings, but can’t add other users or change other users’ settings.
    • Sharing Only: Sharing-only users can access shared files remotely, but can’t log in to the computer or change settings. To give the user permission to access your shared files or screen, you may need to change options in File Sharing, Screen Sharing, or Remote Management settings. See Set up file sharing and Share the screen of another Mac.

For more information about the options for each type of user, click the Help button in the lower-left corner of the dialog.

4. Enter a full name for the new user. An account name is generated automatically. To use a different account name, enter it now—you can’t change it later.

5. Enter a password for the user, then enter it again to verify. Enter a password hint to help the user remember their password.

6. Click Create User."

Take care.

Dear Lee_ms,

Thank you for your response and suggestion to create a new user account. I have tried it as per your recommendation, but unfortunately, the issue persists.

As the nightshift mode and color temperature adjustment on my Samsung Odyssey G9 monitor were working perfectly fine before the macOS Ventura update, I strongly believe it is a software problem caused by the update.

I appreciate your help and would like to request further assistance in resolving this issue.

Thank you.
