Apple Watch Series 8 display not on while sitting on Mag Safe duo charger

I purchased a Mag Safe duo charger for my Series 8 watch. I was inter the impression that the time would be visible while charging, but it doesn’t work.

The watch will stay blank while charging until the watch is moved slightly. Then the time will come on momentarily.
