LaCie mobile ssd secure 1T purchased on apple store for ipad

I purchased a LaCie mobile SsD Secure 1 T on the apple store a few weeks ago and am only now starting to use it. It has a USB-C connector which the box says can be used on my ipad. However, I plugged it into my IPad and my ipad it doesn’t recognise it at all. The LaCie info only has instructions on how to install their “toolkit” software for the SSD on Mac or Windows. I installed it on Windows, downloaded “toolkit” and went through the steps to give it a a password(optional). Plugged it in again on my ipad and ipad still did not recognise it as far as I can see. I looked in photos(this is where I want to export photos on ipad to mobile SSD) and it wasn’t showing up as a device there either. I purchased this $$$ mobile ssd specifically to move photos from my ipad to store securely externally. Long story but I need to do it this way in case someone asks why I don’t use iCloud or a PC /hard drive to store them. Any help?

SSD storage can be connected to iPad and iPad Pro with caveats…

To be recognised by iPadOS, the attached USB storage device must be formatted to FAT, FAT32, exFAT, APFS or HFS+ with a single partition. Microsoft NTFS is not supported. Formatting and partitioning, if required, must be performed using a separate computer; iPad does not provide any facilities to format an external storage device.

Note that for iPad to recognise the SSD, it cannot be password protected.

As the iPad has limited power capabilities, dependent upon the Storage Device, an external power source is often required.

If you have one of the newest iPad Pro models, with a USB-C connector, you may need to utilise a powered USB hub (i.e., it has its own source of power) - connecting both the iPad Pro and the storage device to ports on the hub.

Thank you for the information however the quick start says that the drive is “pre formatted exFAT for use with PC and Mac”. Do I still have to do the single partition, whatever that means and however that’s done?

i am very disappointed that the Apple Store said it could be used on iPad without mentioning any caveats or putting an asterisk explaining in more detail. Thank you for your help.
