Apple Watch multiple activities in one work out

Hi everyone. I recently started switching between running and walking workouts using my series 7 watch with the following instructions:

“Combine multiple activities in a single workout

Open the Workout app on your Apple Watch.

Begin your first workout—an outdoor run, for example.

When you’re ready to start a different activity—like an outdoor bike ride—swipe right, tap the Add button, then choose the workout.

When you finish all your activities, swipe right, then tap End.

Turn the Digital Crown to scroll through the results summary.

Scroll to the bottom and tap Done to save the workout.“

At the end of the workout, I got a summary on my watch showing how long the workout was and the different lengths of running and walking that I did. But after I clicked ‘done,’ everything has become separate workouts in the fitness app and health app. I can’t see how long the workout was in general now, but I can click into each different run and walk from tonight and see the stats from the separate workouts. This isn’t particularly helpful as I can’t see the full route or track the workout as a whole etc.

Any idea what has happened? From looking at other posts, I know it’s possible so I’m really confused.
