Are you saying that even with the Birthdays calendar deactivated you still get the specified (grayed) event?
Already tried with right-click-> Delete on the event (or, simply, backspace via keyboard)?
When I click my events they look different than the above screenshot which 'frank_the_snake_master_01' posted - I do not see a cancel or a delete button and I need to delete old events - can you help me with this? Thank you for reading.

If you want to keep the Birthdays calendar and remove only one specific birthday you should remove the birthday date of the specific person (Anthony in your case) in Contacts app.
Marco Klobas I want to delete this one only
This is a photograph to show what I am referring to
The depicted event is actually a birthday.
You can deactivate the birthdays by unchecking Show Birthdays calendar in Claendar's Settings -> General.

You're welcome, Frank.
If you right-click the event you should see a Delete command in the contextual menu.
