Where can I find my appleID?

For the first time, I now have an iPhone, an iPad, an Apple TV, and home pods, oh, and an M1 iMac. So I have an Apple network, which is a major deal. I’m a lousy administrator. The Apple ID rules them all. Now, I made my last Apple ID in November. But sometimes, I’m asked to write down the password to my Apple ID, by devices like my Apple TV. The HomePods, when they get a new update, will ask me for my Apple ID password. I know it’s complex. I look for it in Passwords, all over the place. Nothing’s there. Even when you type out a new password, all you see are black dots. In passwords, you can see what those dots are. But I can’t successfully copy and paste that to my Apple ID. If you type one letter wrong, other devices start chirping. They want to be sure you know the password, which you just failed to remember correctly.

In Passwords, either in the cloud, or in the “Secure Enclave,” I see no ‘appleID’. I want to just sign in with my Apple ID — on appleID.apple.com, I can just touchID and make it appear that way but then look like black circles. Shouldn’t I be able to see my Apple ID password? What is happening? Have I set up something wrong? Or missing something obvious?

HomePod, 16

Hi there James Hassinger,

We understand you need help with managing your Apple ID between your devices, specifically your password. We'd like to provide some guidance that should help. You will want to make sure you've set up iCloud Keychain on your devices.

Set up iCloud Keychain - Apple Support

Once that is set up, you can find your password within iCloud Keychain.

On your iPhone or iPad

  1. Open Settings > Passwords.
  2. Either scroll to Apple ID in the list or type it in the Search bar at the top.
  3. Once selected, you can tap on the Password field (originally showing as black dots) to reveal your password.
  4. You can also add further information like a note to help you remember, set up a verification code or even initiate changing the password on the accompanying website.

This can be useful for other login passwords you wish Safari to remember across your devices to autofill as well. If you have questions about setting up iCloud Keychain on your devices, reply back here.

Best regards.
