How do I delete Messages in iCloud

iCloud says I have 1.21 GB of messages stored. I have deleted messages such that there are very few on all devices, made sure Macs have iCloud messaging enabled, have set all devices to not keep messages beyond one year, deleted old messages, yet the iCloud amount doesn't change. How do I get rid of them in iCloud?

Hello Gordon Shamway,

Are the deleted messages still within the Recently Deleted section of the Messages app?

If so, you may try deleting them from that Recently Deleted area of the app, and see if this has helped out.

On macOS you may use the following steps to find it:

  1. Open the Messages app
  2. Select the View menu (at the top of the screen)
  3. Choose Recently Deleted in the list.
  4. Select the conversations on the left, and click the Delete button on the middle section.

The messages should automatically delete themselves permanently from the Recently Deleted section after a 30 day span as well.
