Migration Assistant - Music on external drive

I will be migrating to a new Mac mini from a 2014 iMac. I have already moved my music files & photos to an external 2TB SSD because the Mac mini does not have internal storage capacity for it. Everything is also backed up on a Time Machine HD. That external SSD will be used with the Mac mini once it is up and running.

When I run Migration Assistant I plan to only migrate my user account.

1) Should the external 2TB SSD be disconnected from the iMac when running Migration Assistant?

2) In Migration Assistant, under User Accounts, if I select to migrate Music, will that migrate the album artwork and whatever database or file(s) that connects the artwork with the songs?

3) After migration when I connect the external 2TB SSD to the Mac mini, I will open the Apple Music app and tell it the photos are located on the external drive. Will all my music show in the app along with the artwork?

4) In Migration Assistant, under User Accounts, should I select or not select to migrate photos? I do have some photos organized into albums. Where is that information maintained?

Thanks for your help.

Hi fish_sauce,

For help with Migration Assistant, as mentioned in the article here and steps below, "Migration Assistant copies but does not delete files from your old Mac." Move content to a new Mac There are additional steps in the article for what you need on your old and new Mac, including steps for transferring a user account.

There's additional helpful information in the articles here: Transfer your information to Mac from another computer or device, and Transfer your data to your new Mac mini

If you intend on using multiple libraries with Music on your Mac and importing from an external drive, check out the guide here: Import music from a computer to Music on Mac

Moreover, the article here Back up and restore your iTunes library on your PC states:

"If you have a Mac

In macOS Catalina or later, your previous iTunes media library is now available in the Apple Music app, Apple TV app, Apple Podcasts app, and Apple Books app. And when you back up your Mac, your media library is automatically included in that backup. When you set up a new Mac, you can also restore your Mac from a backup."

Cheers.
