ios 16.3.1 very low phone msg volume, can't adjust. can hardly hear

On Iphone 12+: since upgrade to IOS 16.3.1,

1. -volume very low on recorded phone messages, barely can hear and cannot move to "speaker", have to use ear phones to barely understand. How do i increase volume....side buttons do not work. 2. -When using keyboard, instead of "clicks", each letter is verbally said and stated phonetically. Example "D Delta" this is terribly annoying and would rather just here the "clicks" Any help to resolve these issues would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Skeebo2916,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. If there's issues with the sound quality on your device, we would like to help out by recommending some steps that you can try. Let's start by following the guidance listed in the following resource here: If you hear no sound or distorted sound from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch speaker - Apple Support

1.) Remove all screen protectors, films, or cases from your device.
2.) Check the speaker opening to see if it's blocked or dirty. On iPhone only, make sure that the receiver isn't blocked or dirty.
3.) If necessary, clean the speaker or receiver opening with a small, soft-bristled brush. Make sure that the brush is clean and dry.
4.) Go to Settings > Sounds (or Settings > Sounds & Haptics), and drag the Ringer and Alerts slider back and forth a few times. If you don't hear any sound, or if your speaker button on the Ringer and Alerts slider is dimmed, your speaker might need service.
5.) If you hear sound, try making a call with your iPhone and turn on speakerphone. On iPad or iPod touch, make a FaceTime call. If you still can't hear, or hear static or crackling, then your network or reception could be the issue. Try to call again later, or from a different location.

You can also attempt to check your audio volume balance slider in your Accessibility options. Navigate to Settings > Accessibility > Audio/Visual. Here you should see a slide to control you audio. Try adjusting the slider to see if you notice any change in your audio.

We hope these steps are helpful. Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. Cheers.

villa S Followed all instructions. Phone voice mail is still very low volume. Volume buttons do not work on voice mail, & cannot change to speaker phone. Have to get in a quiet place and hold phone to ear to “faintly” hear a voice message left by a caller. Very annoying.

Also lost ability to change settings regarding keyboard clicks. Every key gets the letter announced loudly with a word example.. “A Alpha”. This is also very annoying. Both issues may be related.
