Request for an iPhone sized camera for kids

My 9 yo son would like to know if Apple can make an iphone sized camera for kids that does not have any phone capabilities, but that can connect to the cloud for the purpose of editing videos or photos on another apple device in iMovie.

Consider this: iPad mini - Apple — mini has a bit more display room than does an iPhone, has good cameras, and it supports Pencil. And Wi-Fi and cellular models are available, and cellular models only need a cellular plan if you want to use that feature.

Or as mentioned above, an iPhone 14 or other recent model with no active cellular plan—you'll need a SIM or eSIM to initially activate, but a cellular plan is not needed for any subsequent Wi-Fi-only use.

Given the bumps and drops that pretty much every little person encounters, particularly those little ones seemingly likely to engage in parkour or other super-amazing danger magnet videography techniques, also budget for a robust case, and for AppleCare+ and/or for potential wholesale replacement when (not if) it gets dinged or dropped or dunked or lost or stolen. Budget for device backups too, because budding videographers need lots of storage, and probably aren't the best at backing up their work.

Thanks so much! We did think of this, but older iPhones also don't have latest amazing camera apps... but yes, this is a good idea!

Theoretically, you could buy a brand-new iPhone and just use it as a camera. I believe you might need a SIM in it to activate it initially but you can use the one from your phone. I was thinking that a 9-year-old doesn't necessarily need the latest and greatest camera hardware. There are also great third-party camera apps.

Many thanks, all. Replies are helpful, and about what I assumed was possible/available. Prodded by kid to ask these questions, so I submitted. But honestly it would be pretty cool if they could create a MUCH lower cost model that is more kid-friendly (for small hands/drops/bumps/etc), that still has the high-quality camera apps/editing tools, and space available as the newest iphones do. Kids don't need to connect to the internet, they just need a device that is a one-stop shop for taking and editing pics/videos.
