How do I disable the password reset via passcode feature?

I would like to disable the ability to reset my password using my passcode.

I could have sworn there use to be an "Allow user to reset password via passcode" toggle at some point in the past, but I can't seem to find that anywhere on my iPhone.

Is it possible to turn this ability off? Does the creation of a recovery key turn it off automatically?

Hi AppleBoy123,

If you want to prevent password from being changed, you can set up another passcode for ScreenTime and use the Content & Privacy Restrictions to prevent changes to your account.

This can be really helpful if you're managing your child's account and they have their own passcode to enter their device:

Use parental controls on your child's iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

Allow changes to other settings and features

"You can allow changes to other settings and features, the same way you can allow changes to privacy settings.

  1. Go to Settings and tap Screen Time.
  2. Tap Content & Privacy Restrictions. If asked, enter your passcode.
  3. Under Allow Changes, select the features or settings that you want to allow changes to and choose Allow or Don't Allow.

Here are some features and settings that you can allow changes for:

  • Passcode Changes: Prevent changes to your passcode
  • Account Changes: Prevent account changes in Accounts & Passwords
  • Cellular Data Changes: Prevent changes to cellular data settings
  • Reduce Loud Sounds: Prevent changes to volume settings for safe listening
  • Driving Focus: Prevent changes to the Driving Focus
  • TV Provider: Prevent changes to TV provider settings
  • Background App Activities: Prevent changes to whether or not apps run in the background"

Use parental controls on your child's iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

Set up that Screen Time passcode, and make sure you don't share that with the user of the device.

If this is for your own personal iPhone, it's a security feature for you to be able to recover your account from trusted devices. Change your passcode and don't share it with anyone else if you don't want them to have access to your trusted device.

Hello AppleBoy123,

If you created a recovery key for your Apple ID, there is no way to turn this feature off.

From How to generate a recovery key - Apple Support:

A recovery key is a randomly generated 28-character code that you can use to help reset your password or regain access to your Apple ID. While it’s not required, using a recovery key improves the security of your account by putting you in control of resetting your password. Creating a recovery key turns off account recovery. Account recovery is a process that would otherwise help you get back into your Apple ID account when you don’t have enough information to reset your password. Learn more about using account recovery instead of a recovery key.

Using a recovery key is more secure, but it means that you’re responsible for maintaining access to your trusted devices and your recovery key. If you lose both of these items, you could be locked out of your account permanently. With that in mind, it's important to keep your recovery key in a safe place. You might want to give a copy of your recovery key to a family member, or keep copies in more than one place. That way you always have your recovery key when you need it.

If your Apple ID is locked and you created a recovery key, there isn’t any method to regain access to your Apple ID again.

Take care.
