Reduce Loud Sounds - Apple TV 4k

Hi, hope someone is able to assist.

I recently purchased an Apple TV. One of the reasons for purchasing was the ‘reduce loud sounds’ function as I live in an apartment and have a surround system but unfortunately doesn’t have any DRC built in.

I read that Apple TV could fix this with the reduce loud sounds function.

it does work well for the louder content but I found that I have to disable atmos as it doesn’t seem to do as well on that (assume it’s because of a larger dynamic range?)

however, my issue is that although it will keep the explosions etc at a lower more balanced level, when it does this, the speech also lower a bit as well. I thought that the speech would stay the same volume but the louder sounds would just be reduced but when this is happening the speech is also reducing making it hard to hear the speech in louder action scenes.

I assume this is how it’s meant to be but thought the speech would be a constant volume and the rest of the sound would just lower a bit when there was louder sounds.
