Why has my IMEI number changed after a rear system replacement?

I am with EE and I took my phone to Apple to be repaired, they told me I had a rear system replacement and I didn’t pay anything for it as I’m under Apple care +, my phone now doesn’t turn on at all and I have taken to EE and they have found that my phone now says I have complete different serial number and IMEI number and they can’t repair as it’s not the same phone… so I’m paying for a phone w EE that can’t be repaired and turned on because my rear system was changed. How do I go about this?

iPhone 12, iOS 16

Great thank you! Because EE are trying to tell me it’s a whole brand new phone.

It is.

so I’m paying monthly insurance, paying the whole phone off monthly and contract to then be told well it’s not the same phone we can’t fix it.
so basically Apple have stolen my phone that I’m paying off and I’m left w one nobody can fix

No. They did NOT steal it. They replaced it because it failed/was defective/broke. That's how the service channel works.
