Deleting iMessages is not deleting attachments

I just deleted dozens of iMessages, but the Large Attachments still show up in iPhone storage, despite the messages no longer being on my iPhone. Neither messages nor photos are backed up to iCloud, so how can I clear these attachments without having to go through one by one - And why is it a two step process???

Problem solved, maybe it will help others: I went into Messages, clicked Edit, then went to Recently Deleted Messages and deleted over 45k messages. That took all the attachments with it. Until I did that, the Large Attachments were repopulating, after I’d manually deleted hundreds.
