Can’t export song as ringtone

Hello Collective Wisdom,

Working on an iPad with latest iOS and newly downloaded GarageBand.

I’m trying to export a song from GB as a ringtone, to set as an alarm.

When I try to Share Song as a ringtone I get an error message: “Song cannot be exported… can only be exported if it contains a recording of a Touch Instrument or a Live Loops performance to Tracks view…”

I’m new to GB and have no idea what this gibberish means.

Grateful for HELP!!

'Sharing' / Exporting GarageBand file as a ringtone. I'm attempting to make a ringtone for my iPhone 14 - but I've been unable to share the file as a ringtone. As instructed by a youtube video, I moved an mp3 file into GarageBand and saved it - then I'm apparently supposed to go back to "My Songs", haptic press on the file, select "Share", and share it as a ringtone. This all goes according to plan until I press "Ringtone". When I do this the app says "Exporting as Ringtone..." but then quickly pops up with the window saying "Song cannot be exported - A song can only be exported if it contains a recording of a Touch Instrument or a Live Loops performance to Tracks view." Even accepting the fact that this may be the case - when I add another actual live loop to the song, it still comes up with the same message. Help! - Quinn

Ringtone transfer issue from macOS Sequoia 15.2 to iPhone MacBook Pro M2 running macOS Sequoia 15.2 is connected to an iPhone. Both Finder and Music do not provide a ringtone category when connected to an iPhone. So there is no place for the ringtone to go when you try to drop a ringtone on Finder or Music. Nothing happens, so the ringtone does not show up in the Sounds & Haptics area of the iPhone. Thus you can't download a new created ringtone to an iPhone with macOS Sequoia 15.2. How to create your own ringtone from MP3 on iPhone? Hi, I looked all over and tried a bunch of different steps, so wanted to post the basic ones that worked for me for converting a MP3 to a iPhone ringtone. Save your MP3 file to the Mac desktop. Open in Quicktime player Edit to length. If needed, you can shorten it by clicking Split Clip and delete the portion you don't need. Save the file and/or Export As Audio only. With the file saved, ensure saved with .m4r extension (likely have to be renamed from .m4a) Plug in phone Drag your new audio file to iPhone synch screen that shows up on your Mac (like where you go to decide to sync audio files/podcast/etc.), no particular location; you'll see the little green + when you do this. You'll see it synch to your iPhone on the screen. Now if you go on your iPhone you'll see the new custom ringtone under Sounds and Haptics. I hope this helps someone else out. I wasn't able to get it working via GarageBand, but the above works for me. [Re-Titled by Moderator]
