DIMM configuration in 2019 MacPro 7,1

Aloha from O'ahu,

Having some performance issues with my 2019 MacPro7,1.

I check the DIMM configuration and get this:

So... I don't have 7 DIMMs, I've got 6. Even the Apple diagnostic "sees" this.

Second, for 6 DIMMs I believe these are arranged in the right slots.

Any thoughts on what might be going on -- and what I might do about it?

Mahalo!

You are looking at the results of the power-on self test. It is telling you the DIMM in slot 10 has been 'set aside' and is not being used. You can confirm that by using:

 menu > about this Mac > (system Report) > memory

You can try removing and re-seating it, which sometimes improves the situation temporarily. Generally the failure returns after a brief resolution.

Check the DIMM is slot 10. It does not show any size on the report.

80 G is five times 16 with seven empty. That is likely a software error, reporting the number empty (seven) instead of the number active (five).

Your Mac Pro with Xeon processor features Error Correcting Code DIMMs. They are tested extensively every time your Mac starts up.

If some DIMMs are showing as not present, it means they encountered an error during the most recent Power-On Self Test. That failing DIMM is set aside, and MacOS does not use it.
