Hold Near Reader.... Really?

I purchased a product online paying with my Apple Wallet. The charge is posted under my Card Balance.

I click on Pay with Passcode, double click the side button to pay, enter my passcode and then I'm instructed to Hold Near Reader.

THERE WAS NO READER - EVER!

I made a purchase ONLINE!

How can I bypass this incorrect message a pay my bill?

PS. None of the topics below - that I MUST choose - pertain to the issue!

I am trying to do the very same thing I did with my ApplePay Wallet as I did when I purchased my last iMac.... PAY the bill via opening my Wallet, looking at my current statement and then - I click on Pay with Passcode, double click the side button, as prompted, and enter my passcode at which point I'm instructed to Hold Near Reader.

I can go no further at this point. I simply want to make a payment.

If you purchased the item using Apple Pay (Apple Wallet) and your Apple Card Credit Card and are now trying to pay your credit card bill, see the following Apple Support article for information on making Apple Card payments: How to make Apple Card payments - Apple Support or use an internet browser and go to https://card.apple.com/ as described in Pay your Apple Card balance online - Apple Support

You cannot use your Apple Wallet to pay your monthly Apple Card bill.

OK, do I understand correctly that you purchased something online via Apple Pay using your Apple Cash? (Apple Pay can use a variety of possible payment methods and has to use some payment method such as Apple Cash, Apple Card, a debit card or a credit card).

If not, what did you do?

If yes, what are you trying to do now?
