Hello Needstiknow,

To start, you'd want to provide more detail or a link in your post to the "iPad pen or pencil" you're talking about.

Are you referring to the Apple Pencil? If so, that is the "stylus" for an iPad that Apple makes and sells. An Apple Pencil has more features than a generic 3rd party stylus in that it has a touch sensitive area you can tap to quickly change your tools and pressure sensitivity with the iPad screen. This means it performs more like a real pencil when drawing. The harder you press, the darker/thicker your lines will be. With lighter pressure, your lines will be lighter/thinner.

Here's more info on it: Apple Pencil

If you're trying to compare the Apple Pencil with some other stylus, update your post with the model you're talking about or a link to it so the community members can review it and help clarify the differences.

Cheers!
