iPod Classic unable to Drag and Drop

I have a 160GB iPod classic connected to my MacBook Pro (running Ventura 13.2.1)

My iPod is checked for Hard Drive use and I have always been able to drag and drop various albums and songs onto it via the Music (iTunes) programme, via the USB (with adaptor) lead.

However, although my iPod is recognised by my Music App, it no longer copies the selected songs that I drag onto it, neither does it do so, if I select the songs and select the 'copy to device' option.

None of the .m4a songs are protected and were copied into my Music App from my own collection. Can anybody please help me?

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. According to the user manual for your iPod here: iPod classic - User Guide


There are specific requirements needed to sync your iPod with your Mac. It mentions that you need to use iTunes. iTunes is no longer available in macOS Ventura. This issue might be occurring mainly due to a compatibility issue. However, we would still like to recommend some steps with you. Please follow the steps below:


1.) Restart both devices. This usually helps refresh things.

2.) Try connecting your device in a different port. You might have to disconnect other accessories that are connected to your Mac to further isolate this issue.

3.) Trust your computer, if asked.

4.) Allow the accessory to connect. When connecting your device to a Mac laptop computer with Apple silicon, your Mac might ask whether you want to allow this accessory to connect. If so, allow it to connect.
