authenticators

An authenticator is one way to implement 2 factor authentication to any app that is designed to use an authenticator app. To set it up open the app you want to use it with, go to Settings, then follow the instructions to enable the authenticator. Every app works differently, so you need to follow the instructions in the app.

Once set up when you log in to the app it will prompt for a code from the authenticator; you open the authenticator app, tap on the current code for that app, then go back to the app and paste the code into the authentication field.

Note that Apple’s built-in keychain ALSO provides “authenticator” functionality.

Specifically the same TOTP 6-digit code-generating capability found in most 3rd party authenticator apps.
