Continuity camera inconsistent / doesn't work unless tethered / video doesn't work (Mac Studio, Ventura 13.2.1)

I'd love to use my iPhone as continuity camera consistently, especially with my Mac Studio. I have a mag mount on my monitor and the iPhone would make a fantastic camera compared to the Logitech USB camera that I use now.

BUT... it's totally inconsistent, and I can't rely on it in a business setting (I can't be futzing with it just prior to a company or client call).

Here's some of the diagnostic / remediation steps I've taken:

  1. Update everything (iPhone, Mac) to the latest release.
  2. Reboot everything.
  3. Reset the "privacy & location settings" on my iPhone.
  4. Use a tether (USB cable) ... AND, try using bluetooth.

Also, this is pretty new Mac Studio. I do not have anti-virus software, VPNs, or anything of the sort installed on it. It's pretty much a generic Mac, with OS/X developer stuff, Slack, etc).

What I've observed:

  1. Generally speaking Continuity Camera is unreliable, but "now and then" it seems to work. I haven't figured out the pattern yet, but a few situational cases:
  2. It works better (but not 100%) using a tether. However, with the tether, the iPhone is detected but often does not provide a video feed.
  3. Sometimes, when using a tether and FaceTime, I'll have an option to use the iPhone microphone, but the camera feed is black. After a while FaceTime displays an error that the no video input has been received.
  4. Sometimes when FaceTime gets "stuck" on a feed, it's stuck "forever." Meaning, I can disconnect my iPhone, even turn it off, but FaceTime keeps trying to use the iPhone data feed and failing. I get a black FaceTime window, and errors about no video feed. Rebooting tends to fix the problem (but quitting / restarting FaceTime does not fix the problem).
  5. Bluetooth almost never seems to work. I'd say I might get it working a third of the time over the tether, but I only had it working once or twice over bluetooth in total. One exception to this (and in general)...
  6. If I reboot everything just before a meeting, login, and fire up FaceTime, more-or-less and mostly... "it works." This is obviously very frustrating because I can't reboot my Mac Studio and iPhone before every meeting. And, it just seems ridiculous that I can't keep things working consistently. It's not like I'm making drastic changes to my configuration... mostly, I'm using Safari, writing code, and not fiddling with any configuration settings or installing any new software.

So, I'm wondering if anyone else is having this many problems, if any solutions have been discovered (that aren't already discussed in the forums – I've tried most, but those posts are also pretty old). Or... is this just glitchy / immature technology and it needs a lot of bug fixes? From my perspective, and the fact that "it works" after a fresh reboot, and it works here and there – but eventually, seemingly randomly, "it breaks..." It feels like immature software that needs work.

Finally I'll add that I'm having the same problems, more or less, between my Studio and my Air. If it was just one of them, I'd be looking for the problem in that machine... but with the unreliable behavior being shared between two computers makes me think "it's not the computer." Of course it might be the phone... but I've done everything short of a hard erase and re-install from scratch. Which I don't want to do.
