Screen sharing not working

I am trying to screen share between a Mac Mini (running 13.2.1) and a MacBook Air (also running 13.2.1) using the in-built screen sharing functionality. Both machines are on the same network and see each other in Finder.

Screen sharing is enabled on both machines yet screen sharing fails in either direction when I am trying to share. (File sharing works OK when enabled). I have tried many combinations of users and permissions. The in-built firewall on both machines says it allows screen sharing connections. Disabling and re-enabling screen share doesn't have any effect.

However, when I use the Screen Share app and connect via Apple ID, sharing is fine.

I want to set up sharing on the Mini so I don't need a screen connected and using the Apple ID approach I need a screen to approve the share. In the past, using the standard screen share options, I was able to log on from the remote machine.

Is there a setting I am missing?

Hi curnsuk,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. It sounds like you may have already checked a lot of the settings suggested in the resource below. We do want to make sure nothing is missed so recommend giving this resource another look: Share the screen of another Mac - Apple Support

If that resource doesn't help, let us if you've been able to screen share between these devices previously. If so, were there any updates or changes since the last time you were able to screen share?

Thanks.
