Paid with debit card but used Apple Pay for in-store refund

Hi there,

I recently made a $500 purchase with my debit card but had to return the item. I went back into the store to process the refund and when the EFTPOS machine was brought out, I tapped on using my Apple Pay (which is connected to the same debit card).

I don't see any incoming pending refund in my mobile banking app so I'm quite worried if I made a mistake. The receipt of my original purchase shows the last 4 digits of my debit card. And the refund receipt shows the last 4 digits of the Device Account Number for the same debit card.

Will the system recognise both the debit card & Apple pay as the same card? Or will it reject the refund due to the difference in the last 4 digits? (As I was told to use the same card used for the original purchase in order to process the refund.)

iPhone 13, iOS 15
