Unsecured network

I am a college student and I have an apple air Mac book 2020 I am having trouble connecting to my schools wifi because it says unsecured network. I turned off my firewall and that did not help. This happens every time I am at school. I also am a substitute teacher and unable to use wifi at work because of the same issue. What settings do I need to change to allow my computer to connect to an unsecured wifi.

Hi maldodb295,

Are you able to connect to a secure network such as your home network successfully? There are a few steps you can take in order to troubleshoot this.

  1. Restart you Mac. Restarting can help because it renews the Internet address assigned when joining a Wi-Fi network. You can go to the Apple menu ( ) > Restart to perform this. Check out: Shut down or restart your Mac - Apple Support
  2. Confirm your MacBook is running the latest macOS available. macOS updates contain many bug fixes and features updates that can help your Mac to behave as expected. Check out how to update here: Update macOS on Mac - Apple Support.
  3. Confirm the date & time are set correctly: Set the date and time on your Mac - Apple Support
  4. Check for any VPN or third party security software that may be interfering with your connection: Check VPN (Virtual Private Network) and third-party software to help resolve network connectivity issues - Apple Support

Check out some additional information in this article: If your Mac isn't connecting to the internet over Wi-Fi - Apple Support

Have a good one!
