How does iPhone 12 handle 2 eSim numbers?

I will be traveling internationally and I want to have 2 numbers on my phone: one for local (foreign) calls & data and one for calls back to the states. As long as I can switch between numbers do I have to have a physical SIM card for the foreign number with the eSim for the US number or can I also have the foreign number in an eSim.

I don't need both numbers active at the same time (Dual SIM?) as long as I can switch between them easily.

Thanks,

Peter

While a 12 can have multiple eSIM profiles stored …

… only ONE can be active/online at any one time.

e.g. 1x eSIM (+ 1x nanoSIM)

Toggling between eSIMs is quite easy.

(The capability to use 2x eSIM profiles simultaneously rolled-out w/ iPhone 13.)

See more here:

Use Dual SIM on iPhone – Apple Support (AU)

I would suggest purchasing a couple of domestic eSIMs to “practice” before your travels.

While not difficult, it’s something you’d prefer to NOT learn in the middle of an international trip w/ all the other inherent distractions.

Lastly, would suggest converting your primary (U.S.) line to eSIM to keep your nanoSIM slot “open/available.”
