Music not playing as alarm sounds

Almost all of my downloaded music will not play as an alarm sound. I’ve tried tried several songs and only the ones I don’t want to wake me, work. Any help is greatly appreciated

Hi M_S_M71,

Is your music downloaded using Apple Music, or what this purchased music from the iTunes Store or a third-party source? If this is downloaded music from Apple Music, this is expected behavior. You would not be able to use the music in Apple Music library for ringtones. It is DRM-protected. You would need to use purchased music from iTunes or a third-party source.

Regards.

Hi M_S_M71,

Thanks for contacting Apple Support Communities!

We understand that you're unable to hear your selected songs as the alarm tone.

If you go to Settings > General > Date & Time, do you have Set Automatically enabled? Sometimes manually adjusting your time can impact your alarms.

You may also consider deleting the alarm and set it up again as outlined here: How to set and change alarms on your iPhone - Apple Support

"How to delete an alarm

  • Swipe left over the alarm and tap Delete.
  • Tap Edit, tap the Delete button , then tap Delete.
  • Tap Edit, tap the alarm, then tap Delete Alarm."

You can also ensure that you're running the most recent iOS version: Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

We hope this helps you.

Take care!

Hello M_S_M71,

We appreciate the information, and it definitely helps get a better picture as to what may be going on. As this was working before, have you tried restarting your phone, to see if you're able to get this working? Restart your iPhone

Also, try closing the apps on your phone, the settings to change your sound, and the Music app, just to load them fresh again, to see if this helps: Close an app on your iPhone or iPod touch

Those steps can get us a better path, from here.

Also, these may seem like simple steps, but sometimes may be able to help with issues like you're seeing.

Regards.

Hey there M_S_M71,

We apologize for the misinformation. While you are not able to use Apple Music content for ringtones, you can use them for your alarm.

We want to back up and confirm a few things with you so we can ensure we have all the information necessary to appropriately guide you. It sounds like you are able to set some songs as an alarm sound, but not others. Please let us know the following details so we can better assist:

  • What device and iOS version are you using?
  • When you try to set the songs as an alarm sound, what happens?
  • If you receive any error messages, what exactly do they say?
  • Have you ever been able to use these songs for the alarm?

Have a wonderful day.
