Using iPad as host to transfer files

Hi, wondering if it's possible to have 2 drives connected to an iPad Pro and transfer files between the 2 drives? I tried connecting an SD card and an old HDD portable drive but the transfer just seemed to hang right at the start.

The purpose for asking is because ideally I'd like to copy photos from my SD card to an external drive (via the iPad) whilst travelling without having to take my MacBook.

Great question regarding how to transfer files using external storage and iPad. iPad does not support file transfer between 2 connected external storage devices.
