Auto-brightness not working, but True Tone is.

I know a lot of people don't like auto-brightness, but in my case, I find it quite useful.

But for some reason, it has stopped working. I did some searching around the internet and it seems that sometimes it can be the ambient light sensor, but mine is working fine as True Tone is working with no problem. I also ran a diagnostic and that came back all clear.

I recall when I first got this laptop about 4-5 months ago now, that the auto brightness was a bit iffy at first but then seemed to work just fine.

I'm on Ventura and everything is up to date. Thanks for any advice.

Edit: and just like that it's working again! I decided to try flashing my iPhone torch at the sensor and it jumped into life and is working ok again now. How strange.

Make sure these settings are correct

If your Mac display is slow to reach full brightness – Apple Support (UK)

If its not related to this, can you tell me if any other user on your Mac is having the same issue or is it just you?

if no other account is added you can easily add one with these steps and report back here after

Hi there. Not sure if you saw my edit but it's working again now :) But yeah, I use it mostly in the bedroom in the evenings and as I turned on and off the lights during the evening it would adjust brightness pretty quickly. But the last couple of weeks it wasn't responding to the (very bright) bedroom light at all. No idea what went wrong but all good now thanks :)
