No matter what I try My screen pointer will not open anything even the Apple Logo so can't get off the opening screen.

connect an external pointing device like a USB Mouse.
If that allows you to point and proceed, look for signs of a swollen battery, which is pressing upward on the bottom of the trackpad. Look underneath to see if the center of the bottom is bowed downward toward the tabletop. Look for pressure along the seams.

Troubleshooting a Mac Cursor:
Reset the SMC and your NVRAM: Sometimes when changes are made to the system(i.e. Updates), system configurations (i.e. for keys) become manipulated, technically. So, reset the SMC and NVRAM. Try performing each thrice. It may take sometime, being certain you have the time to perform these resets. (Applies to Intel-Based Macs Only).
