iPhone sending texts to landline

This happened randomly to a contact. I’ve sent messages/pictures/links/etc with no issue in the past. We’re talking years. I’m responding in the same thread too.

No update to their contact information. It’s not all the time either and I think I’m not receiving the error response on each attempt.

This did seem to start after an iOS update. I can’t say it’s for just this contact as most of my other contacts have only a mobile.

The specific contact is someone I need to have reliable contact with, but I’m frustrated and baffled as to why this is happening.

Any suggestions welcome.

I'm not entirely clear about what is happening here.

Are you referring to blue (Messages) and green (SMS) bubbles in the Messages app? (Sometimes swapping between those is sometimes normal, when the recipient iPhone is not getting a reliable data connection.)

Or to an SMS text message being erroneously sent to a landline telephone?

Do you have a landline telephone listed in your contacts for the recipient?

Checked with your cellular carrier already?

Yes, there is a landline associated with the contact. There has ALWAYS been a landline associated with this contact.

The other person has an iPhone so it sometimes sends green and sometimes blue.

There’s no “reason” why this is happening. In other words it’s a new issue. It’s intermittent. I sometimes have no issue and sometimes I can’t send anything. I’ve literally sent messages that come through just fine and the next will bounce back. There’s been no changes other than the iOS update on my phone (and possibly their phone).
