I can no longer change my notification sounds after updating my Ipad to 16.3.1

I am unable to change my notification for my mail sounds. In settings it shows what I have newly selected, yet when I receive my mail, the old sound is still there. Is this a problem with the update, and is there a way I can change it to something that I can hear.

I just figured it out! I needed to go to notifications - mail - customize notifications - icloud - and change it there? Thank you everyone who answered. I learn something new all the time.

Hey Donswife48,

To clarify, was this an issue prior to updating or only after iPadOS 16.3.1? Also, take a moment to restart your iPad, and then test the issue again.

Should the issue persist, is this one of the pre-set alert tones, or is this one downloaded from the App Store? If it is a purchased tone, does a default one do the same thing?

Let us know and we'll continue from there.

Cheers!

Hey Donswife48,

You're setting the notification sounds correctly. Do you have any headphones or AirPods connected to your Mac? If so, does disabling those devices help? Let's also have you turn off all Notifications and then enable it again as this may help to resolve the issue you're facing. See: Use notifications on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

Thanks for responding. I had another pre-set alert tone, but it was the same one I use for my iphone. I only changed the tone after updating to 16.3.1 (so I don't actually know if I would have been able to before). I have restarted my ipad twice, but it won't change. I only have pre-set tones, I have not downloaded any others.

Maybe it's just a simple thing - this is what I'm doing. I go to settings, mail notifications, sounds. Under alert tones, I have went back to Aurora and it doesn't change from my previously selected tone which was classic-Choo Choo. I will add, I also played with lock sound, on now it's off again. I read today where someone turned their bluetooth off, then back on. Right now I have bluetooth set to on on both my iphone and ipad.

I have been trying for at least a week, so I guess I can live with it, but the sound is lower when new mail comes. Sorry, I've probably not explained my problem well, but I hope you have an idea of what I am doing wrong? Thanks

I don't have any headphones or airpods. I did turn off all Notifications and then enabled it again. Nothing changed. I also have an older iphone 7 and tried to change the notification sound on it, it doesn't change either? So apparently my problem is "user error". I looked and read this morning anything I could to see what I have set wrong and can't find anything.

I do have some family members and friends that use Apple products, so I'll just hand it to them and let them figure it out.

Thank you for answering me.
