I have an iPhone 13 with iOS 16.3.1

If I go to any particular text message, and scroll up 5 or 6 pages, then delete 3 or 4 text “bubbles“ my iPhone will scroll back to the end of the text thread. It is very annoying to have to go back up 5 or 6 pages again to get back to where I was before the deletions. How do I stop my iPhone from scrolling to the end of the text thread?

Hey there HibiscusandRoses,

Thanks for keeping us updated on your results and for sharing these additional details with us. If restarting didn't help, we recommend that you try refreshing things by closing out the Messages app and testing again:

Close an app on your iPhone or iPod touch - Apple Support

1. From the Home Screen, swipe up from the bottom of the screen and pause in the middle of the screen.
2. Swipe right or left to find the app that you want to close.
3. Swipe up on the app's preview to close the app.

If that doesn't work, additional steps are limited since you're already fully updated and restarting didn't help. We would recommend that you reach out to Apple Support for additional help. They might have to investigate this further with you. Use this link to reach them: Get Support

Thanks of using Apple Support Communities. Best of luck.

Hello HibiscusandRoses,

To help us get a better understanding of the issue, we’d like to ask a few questions.

1. Does this only happen in the Messages app, or do you experience similar issues with scrolling in other apps as well?

2. When did you first notice this behavior? Were any changes made to your device or its settings before this began?

3. Do you experience the same behavior after restarting your device? We ask because restarting can correct some issues. This link explains how to restart: Restart your iPhone

How to restart your iPhone X, 11, 12, 13, or later

1. Press and hold either volume button and the side button until the power-off slider appears.
The volume button is located on the left side of the device, and the side button is located on the right
2. Drag the slider, then wait 30 seconds for your device to turn off. If your device is frozen or unresponsive, force restart your device.
3. To turn your device back on, press and hold the side button (on the right side of your iPhone) until you see the Apple logo.

Thanks!

Hello Brittany1416,

Thank you for your response.

  1. I have noticed this issue only in the Messages App (for now anyway).
  2. I noticed this behavior when I purchased my new iPhone 13 in January. Before that, I had an iPhone 7, and it didn’t exhibit this issue. Upon purchase of my iPhone 13, all data and settings were transferred from my iPhone 7 to the new iPhone 13.
  3. I have restarted my device several times and restarting did not work to fix the issue.

Hello Vilas_S

Sorry for the late reply. Thank you for your response. I just wanted to update you to let you know that your recommended course of action of closing out the Messages app did not work. I am going to attempt erasing my iPhone (after saving all my data) and then upload my saved data and start anew. If that still does not fix the issue, I will contact Apple Support as you suggested.
