Are there any shortcut to let a window take up the screen but not enter the full-screen mode?

Hello, when I was reading a pdf in acrobat, I also need to open an dictionary app or browser to search or look up words. This require a small window stand forward it, so I can not use the fullscreen mode since it will quit the fullscreen to open another app. Usually, I need to drag the four side of the app to the edge of the screen, so I can open another app stand before it. Are there any convenient ways to deal with it?

If you option-click the green button it will make the window take up most of the screen without entering full screen mode.

You can set it so that a double click on the title bar will Zoom. I don’t know if that’s the default or if you have to set it up in the dock system settings.

Note that Zoom is not maximize. Some apps will fill the screen, and some may just fill top to bottom. Zoom is designed to set the window to a size just big enough to hold all of the contents. It toggles between that size and a user set size. The size of the window is determined by the app itself not the system, so some apps just maximize the window, while others follow the desired behavior.
