Well, I could try...I am devoid of any competence in the matter.
My MacBook began shutting down at random; I would just press the start button and
it would restart normally. This began happening on a regular basis, to a degree that made it impossible to use
the Macbook.
I began reading posts in search of a solution and realized I was not the only person to encounter this particular problem. I followed advice found in some threads and consulted a panel that's lists the shutdown history. There is a long list where the word sigkill appears every couple of lines, followed by coded data, which is greek to me.
I then consulted the Apple help center.
Apple recommended I bring the machine to my local dealer.
I persisted in consulting the forums and eventually came up with a post which advocated the use of a
thunderbolt cable simply plugged into the MacBook (without anything plugged in to it)
Since then, no more random shutdowns. Its a cheap fix, I suppose, but I reckon the cable requires
a little extra power, as the battery seems to need recharging more often ( this could also be due to age, maybe)
That's about it. I really don't know a thing about all this...
All the best, JB

How old is it? The electrical components wear out over time with repeated heating and cooling. If you are getting spontaneous shutdowns that get fixed by plugging in a cable, then the computer is probably close to death. I recommend you replace it.
Well that could indicate a problem with the thunderbolt port or bus itself. If it works on every thunderbolt port to add a cable to prevent shut downs, then it is the bus itself.
Thanks for your reply.
I'm just curious. I could no longer use my
MacBook - Sigkill shutdowns every couple of minutes.
I found the tip in a forum, and, lost for a solution, purchased a thunderbolt cable to try it out.
To my surprise, it worked straight off. If I unplug it, the sigkill shutdowns start again.
Since Sigkill is a Java command, I will ask this post be moved to the development forum. Someone there who has more experience developing with Java can explain what it does and does not do.
Maybe you should start off by describing this "Sigkill shutdown". When I Google it, the only meaningful hit is your post.
