Was trying to update my iPhone Xs to 16.3.1 using iTunes and got a message that it could not update, that the disk is full. I have 108gb available on my iphone, and 5.62gb available on my computer hard drive. How much space do I need? This is not the first time I have encountered this problem.

Since you have plenty of space on the iPhone I would try doing it wirelessly.
