Bring MacPro Tower back to life

MacPro Tower ~2010 has been sitting for a couple of years. Tried to start it up. Tried various keyboard combos. Got to the login screen once (don't know how) with spinning colored ball, but now get only blank white screen. Changed the battery on the MB. Can't get the optical drive to open. Help?

Mac Pro, 10.10

The simplest thing that Mac can do is Startup Manager, whose code is all in ROM.

Hold Option at Startup and you should get the chime, then it draws a gray screen. Over the next several minutes, it adds an icon for each potentially bootable drive it finds by brute force looking around.

If it does not get there, how far does it get?
